Representing the historic transformation of a space shuttle orbiter from a vehicle of exploration to an instrument of inspiration, the Discovery Chase Team emblem commemorates the final journey of space shuttle Discovery and her transit from Kennedy Space Center to the Udvar-Hazy Center near the nation's capital.
The massive Vehicle Assembly Building and observation tower of the Udvar-Hazy Center repesent Discovery's two homes, with the powerful Shuttle Carrier Aircraft carrying the orbiter for one last flight between the two locations. Thirty-nine red, white and blue stars adorn the sky overhead as reminders of Discovery's thirty-nine spaceflights and her achievements in low Earth orbit.
The patriotic design is rounded out with a red and black banner with the names of the six members of the team as their work covering Discovery comes full circle.
